This is just a page dedicated to me exploring new media that's reccomended to me, either through some ungodly meta-sponsered algorithm, OR wonderful sources like the daily top picks of Newgrounds, LastFM, or even just my friends. I will not guarantee consistency or even good reviews, but I like to experience art and share that experience with others :3 Enjoy! Oh and also I'm just including those that I want to teehee
Woah today we've gone through our first 'liv is tired' time skip lol. BUT I come offering some fun little picks.
Like "T90X- transman's guide to passing" by Madds. A satirical look on expectations of both trans masculinity and cis masculinity. It was a really good, not necessarily sketch, but comedic short and I thought it was really uplifting.
Likewise, I really enjoyed this YouTube video by Grownkid titled "feeling erotically invisible", a sentiment that I've really come to share particularly recently. The video speaks to that struggle of being attractive enough sure, but never sexually, being the 'cute' or 'fun' girl as opposed to the 'hot' one. As someone with a 'great personality', this really spoke to me.
Finally on the animation side of things I think this pilot has incredible potential! It's "Overclock" by CaramelCanister, and it is an acid-injected, beautifully animated project that really reminded me of ENA. I think the voice acting was a little jarring but I mean that with all the love in my heart, because I think this pilot would be incredible with a bit of a budget!
A quick one tonight cause I'm too tired to code or write lol
My favourite of today was the first episode of a new series called 'Private View'. The pilot episde "Smiling with Tea" was such a fun way to introduce this dark yet beautifully animated show. They make their DHMIS and Tim Burton inspiration obvious from the start and the episode left me with a sick feeling, thus it's my best pick of today!
My other choices for today are a Spamton animatic by ghostedrider/pain and regret and "The Junior Executive Model" by KiwisBurntToast.
Today has been another fun day but fewer picks!
First up is the new Smiling Friends short "Card Game", which was very cute but very saddening given the recent cancellation :( I hope the creators are doing well tho, and I'm excited to see any of their upcoming work! More on the short tho, it is very silly classic smiling friends quip, but I felt like they had Alan doing 'too much', I don't know why.
Next we have the Newgrounds recs! Woo! Today my favourites were "Weather This, Climate That" by BridgeofFaust and "Deviled Dice" by JuicyBeast. 'Weather This' is a really beautiful short movie that really invokes that Looney Toones type of humour, the artstyle is refreshing and unique and overall a very visually stimulating experience! 'Deviled Dice' on the other hand is a game to calm that gambling addiction. It's built almost like a rougelike, beautiful art, fun concept – my one complaint is that the descriptions are slightly vague (lost my run to a misinterpreted boss instruction).
Today I delved into Newgrounds' reccomendations for the first time! Woah :0, it was fun. But somehow the top pick of the day was a YouTube find! "Mija~ [AKA, Transgender Robots in Mexico]" by TheEggoMan was a short but heartwarming movie. It's rare that queer acceptance is shown in media, and I find that a lot of queer media glorifies rejection to make a cishet audience care about the character as a person over a sexuality/gender. Really cute and I wish I could log it on my LetterBoxd.
"Going Rallying" by WheelieYellow is a quick 6-minute multi-media project which I feel stupid not hearing about before. It's the first on my Newgrounds list, and it's got that classic British 'idgaf' humour. I really liked the tasteful shots of the remote controlled van splashing up the puddle water!
On top of that I played "Lee-Lee's Quest", olskoo's revival of raitendo's orignal game. Another short but sweet little game which managed to actually be quite immersive as npcs hurled insults your way – it definitely reduced the guilt of killing them (don't tell Toby Fox). While I'm not hugely into platformers it was enjoyable and well-characterised, so moments of my own stupidity felt worthy of laughter in lieu of despair.
Finally for today we have *drumroll* "Bathroom Door" by Cheetoh and "The Dissapearance of my Mega Man Action Figure" by GuyCxAnimation. Bathroom Door read more as a sketch show clip, and Mega Man more as a YouTube video. They were entertaining but failed to really move me. Big shoutout to GuyCxAnimation's art style though, it really elevated the whole thing :)
